Rochester Plaza to launch $2 million upgrade

Work will begin Aug. 11 on renovations totaling $2 million at the Rochester Plaza Hotel & Conference Center, representatives announced Thursday.

The project is to begin with the hotel’s grand ballroom and meeting space on the second floor.

Guest rooms are scheduled for upgrades in December, including furniture, carpet, wall coverings, and the addition of flat screen TVs, lighting and new bathroom decor. That work will take three months, hotel officials said. Renovations will be done one floor at a time, with the lobby the last to be completed.

The improvements will create a contemporary look for the State Street hotel, positioning it for growth over the next five years, General Manager Paul Kremp said.

“We are seeing the economy turning around in many segments, so the timing is advantageous,” Kremp said.

The hotel’s last major renovation was in 2008, with $3 million spent on interior and exterior work, hotel officials said.
