LaBella Associates P.C. CEO Sergio Esteban has been named 2012 Hispanic Business Person of the Year by the Rochester Hispanic Business Association, officials announced Friday.

A native of Madrid, Spain, Esteban has lived in Rochester since 1978, and is a past president of the RHBA.

He has been a manager and civil engineer for 30 years, and has led high-profile projects such as the redevelopment of the Midtown Plaza site, the Port of Rochester in Charlotte, and High Falls/Brown’s Race.

LaBella president Robert Healy nominated Esteban.

“Sergio brings a positive spirit, countless energy and boundless enthusiasm to every individual and organization he serves,” Healy said in a statement. “His passion lies with a sincere desire for the betterment of everyone around him.”

Esteban is incoming chairman of Geva Theatre. He is chairman of the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, and a trustee of the Monroe Community College Foundation, Nazareth College of Rochester and the Rochester Economic Development Corp.

Esteban is to be honored Sept. 25 at the RHBA’s annual Business Person of the Year Luncheon and Expo at the convention center.

“Sergio epitomizes everything that one looks for in an honoree,” RHBA chairwoman Grace Tillinghast said in the statement.

“He is a respected business leader who made Rochester his home. He is very involved in the community, and over the years has held a number of prominent leadership positions. We are thrilled to be able to honor him.”
