U.S. Women's Soccer to play in Rochester Sept. 1

Rochester Business Journal
July 31, 2012

The U.S. Women’s National Team, featuring Pittsford native Abby Wambach, will play Costa Rica at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester on Sept. 1 in a match to be televised by NBC, officials said Tuesday.

Ticket information for the 2:30 p.m. start has not been announced.

It will be the first international competition for the U.S. team following the Olympic Games in London.

Wambach scored the only goal in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over North Korea. The U.S. squad finished 3-0 in group play, advancing to quarterfinal play.

The U.S. team’s first match after the 2004 Olympics also was in Rochester, a 4-3 victory over Iceland on Sept. 25 at Frontier Field. Wambach scored twice, and assisted on a goal by Mia Hamm.
