Lucid Inc. has changed its name Caliber Imaging & Diagnostics Inc., or Caliber ID, the Henrietta firm announced Thursday.
The new name reflects the company's focus on creating identification tools for accurate, rapid diagnosis to assist in the fight against skin cancer and other diseases, company leaders said.
Caliber ID has created a new class of tools enabling physicians to image and diagnose skin disease in real time without a biopsy. These devices allow physicians to detect and diagnose skin disease, including basal cell carcinoma, melanoma, and inflammatory and pigmentary disorders.
Last month, CEO Michael Hone told the Rochester Business Journal the firm was reworking its financing as part of a plan to raise $20 million and shift its technology into doctors' offices.
Founded in 1991, Caliber ID develops electro-optical products and instruments for medical applications. The company is perhaps known best for specializing in non-invasive skin cancer imaging through its advanced VivaScope technology. The company has roughly 30 employees.
