Twenty firms selected for program to boost growth

Twenty second-stage companies from the Rochester region will participate in a Greater Rochester Enterprise Inc. program designed to accelerate growth, officials said Thursday.

The program will be paid for with a $200,000 grant from the Empire State Development Corp. through the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council, and with matching funds from GRE, officials said.

“Approximately 80 percent of our economic growth comes from businesses that are already located here,” GRE president and CEO Mark Peterson said in a statement. “The GRE Economic Gardening Program is critically important because it helps local businesses expand and add jobs in the greater Rochester region.”

The initiative will serve as a pilot project that could be copied by other regions of New York and potentially connect all of the state’s economic development organizations, said Danny Wegman, Finger Lakes council co-chairman and CEO of Wegmans Food Markets Inc.

The companies chose by GRE and its economic development partners are:

•    Abtex Corp.,
•    Applied Energy Solutions,
•    Corrosion Products and Equipment Inc.,
•    CY Plastics Works Inc.,
•    Danaren Dental Laboratories,
•    eHealth Global Technologies Inc.,
•    Envative,
•    Finger Lakes Technologies Group Inc.,
•    Framing Technology Inc.,
•    Hazlitt’s Red Cat Cellars.
•    Legendary Auto Interiors Ltd.,
•    Once Again Nut Butter,
•    OrCon Industries Corp.,
•    Pharma-Smart International Inc.,
•    Premium Copack,
•    R.S. Mahar & Son Inc.,
•    Savage IO,
•    Sustainable Energy Developments Inc.,
•    Upstate Door Inc. and
•    Virtual Polymer Compounds LLC.

A team of national experts provided by the Edward Lowe Foundation will work with leaders from each of the 20 companies to develop plans to accelerate their business success, officials said.
