CPE buys Victor manufacturers' rep

Corrosion Products & Equipment Inc., a Gates distributor of fluid handling products, is acquiring Victor-based Gehring Pumps Inc., company officials announced Thursday.

“This acquisition will bring a vast infrastructure and new resources, including products, services, engineering and 24/7 support capabilities to Gehring customers,” CPE president Robert Tortorella said.

“It also makes CPE a major player in New York State, strengthens our presence in the Northeast and creates a platform for growth nationally, with more opportunities to sell products in new markets, expand services and create additional job opportunities.”

The acquisition is CPE’s third in six years. It purchased a distributor in Puerto Rico in 2006, and in December 2008 acquired Plastics Etc. Inc. of Haverhill, Mass.

CPE, a family-owned business with facilities in Albany, employs 45 in management, sales, engineering, support services and project management.

Gehring is a manufacturers’ representative and distributor of pump and process equipment to the water and wastewater industries.

Owner and president Jacob Scherer will join CPE as vice president of sales in the pump division. Gehring employees will move to CPE’s headquarters at 110 Elmgrove Park.

“It has always been a dream of mine to be the premier supplier of equipment in New York State,” Scherer said. “This acquisition fulfills that dream.

“I enjoy the sales end, driving the bottom line and getting in front of customers. Instead of wearing all the hats running a company, I can now sell five days a week. It’s a new beginning for me, a breath of fresh air.”
