Home Leasing LLC, Rochester Housing Authority, Edgemere Development Inc. and Spiritus Christi Church plan a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Voters Block Community and 1872 Cafe on West Main Street at 11 a.m. Thursday.

The Voters Block Community is a $20 million scattered site project along West Main Street.  The project’s focus is at 431 West Main St., the site where Susan B. Anthony and 15 other women voted illegally in 1872. It features a newly constructed 39-unit, mixed use apartment building with a community room, tenant storage, laundry facilities, and the 1872 Cafe.

The cafe overlooks the site where a $2 million Susan B. Anthony memorial, designed by local artist, Pepsy Kettavong, is planned.  The project also includes historic rehabilitation of the Wertz building, an 8-unit apartment building located on the corner of West Main and Madison, the Frederick Douglass Apartments, 28 residential units and 10 commercial units along West Main, and 45 newly constructed single family homes and duplexes in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Speakers at Thursday’s event include representatives from Home Leasing, Rochester Housing Authority, Edgemere Development and Spiritus Christi Church, as well as Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy and Mayor Thomas Richards.
