MCC gets grant for worker training

The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded a grant of $933,842 to Monroe Community College for training to workers in Western New York.

The funding is intended to help people find high quality, high wage jobs in the advanced manufacturing sector, representatives from the office of Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-Perinton, said.

MCC is serving as the lead for a consortium of community colleges across the state that together have secured close to $15 million in funding from the Labor Department, Slaughter’s office noted. The newest funding will expand programs that provide training and education to prepare unemployed workers and veterans.

Slaughter said it was gratifying to see MCC take the lead in the consortium and helping grow the local economy.

“Rochester is home to the hardest working, most talented workforce in the country,” Slaughter said in a statement. “These resources from the Department of Labor will provide a tremendous boost in helping Rochesterians gain access to new, high paying jobs in high-tech manufacturing industries.”
