September 27, 2012

The Strong has announced the 12 finalists for the National Toy Hall of Fame.

The 12 final nominees for 2012 induction:

  • Clue,
  • Dominoes,
  • Fisher-Price Corn Popper push toy,
  • Lite-Brite,
  • little green army men,
  • Magic 8 Ball,
  • Pogo stick,
  • sidewalk chalk,
  • Simon,
  • Star Wars action figures,
  • tea set and
  • Twister.

Two of the 12 finalists will be selected to join the hall. Inductees are to be revealed on Nov. 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the Strong, with a public celebration to follow.

Anyone can nominate a toy for consideration to the Hall of Fame, Strong officials note. The submissions are then reviewed by an internal museum advisory committee of curators, educators, and historians. They then review the nominees and take a vote, with the two with the highest total making it into the Hall of Fame.

In total 49 toys have been inducted to the Hall of Fame to date.
