$15 million upgrade completed at senior living center

Officials on Thursday marked the completion of a $15 million upgrade at an independent senior living center in Perinton.

The multimillion-dollar makeover at Fairport Apartments rehabbed 14 buildings constructed in 1972. There are 13 two-story apartment buildings totaling 67,400 square feet, along with a 4,000-square-foot community center.

The campus was redeveloped by the Fairport Baptist Home, Rochester’s Cornerstone Group Ltd. and Perinton Churches Housing, a consortium of 13 local churches concerned about senior housing.

It took nearly five years to arrange the funding, project officials said.

The two biggest sources were $8.8 million in tax credit equity from Raymond James Tax Credit Funds Inc. and a nearly $3.5 million seller's note. Additional funding sources included the state Housing Trust Fund Corp., the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Monroe County.
