RPO's Tyzik named to Detroit Symphony Orchestra post

Rochester Business Journal

Jeff Tyzik will be a bit busier in the next few years.

The principal pops conductor for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Inc. was named to the same position at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He will have a three-year appointment in Detroit, beginning in the 2013-14 season.

Tyzik plans to pull double duty, conducting for the DSO this weekend and returning to Rochester to conduct the RPO in the world premiere of his new suite to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Memorial Art Gallery, “Images: Musical Impressions of an Art Museum.”

“It’s a thrill to be Detroit’s new principal pops conductor,” Tyzik said. “I’m also excited about continuing my role as PPC of the Rochester Philharmonic, and I look forward to making great music next season in both the Motor City and the Flower City.”

The DSO post adds to a number of other duties for Tyzik, RPO officials noted. He has also served as principal pops conductor of the Oregon Symphony, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Florida Orchestra and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.
