National networking firm to establish office here

The New York City-based chapter of a national networking firm for minority businesses plans to establish an office in Rochester to serve all of Upstate New York.

The New York and New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council is expanding to include members of the former Buffalo-based Upstate New York Regional Minority Supplier Development Council, officials announced Thursday.

Its satellite office in Rochester will conduct site visits as part of the certification process for minority business enterprises, facilitate outreach activities, and support the activities and needs of corporate members, officials said.

The organization is looking for a director to manage the upstate service area.

Chartered in 1972, the National Minority Supplier Development Council advances business opportunities for certified Asian, African-American, Hispanic, and Native American enterprises and connects them to corporate members.

The NMSDC has 36 affiliate councils nationwide with 3,500 corporate members. Membership includes public, private and foreign-owned companies, as well as universities, hospitals and other institutions. The regional councils certify and match 16,000 minority-owned businesses with member corporations in search of products and services, representatives said.
