Red Kettle campaign reaches goal, raises nearly $600K

The Salvation Army of Greater Rochester surpassed its goal for the 2012 Red Kettle Campaign. It is the second year in a row it has exceeded its target.

The organization brought in $597,014 for the campaign this year; the goal was $560,000.

Executive Director Randy Orr said the organization was elated, grateful and appreciative of the community.
 
“We wouldn’t be celebrating this great milestone without the caring and giving individuals who gave their time to volunteer and reached deep into their pockets,” Orr said in statement. “The theme this year was to ‘Make Change Happen’ and the community certainly did just that.”

Before meeting its goal in 2011, the Salvation Army of Greater Rochester had not reached its goal since 2005. Donations to the Red Kettle Campaign are used for programming in Rochester, supporting 50,000 people each year who rely on the organization for food, homeless shelters and emergency assistance.

More than 8,000 people volunteered during the 2012 Red Kettle campaign.
