Kyocera files patent suit against Kodak

Rochester Business Journal
January 4, 2013

Eastman Kodak Co. has been sued by Kyocera Corp. for allegedly infringing on some 15 of the Japanese firm’s U.S. patents with its inkjet printers, digital cameras and other devices.

In a complaint filed Friday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan, Kyocera is seeking relief for post-bankruptcy petition patent infringement. It is seeking a jury trial, injunctions and unspecified damages.

Kodak sought bankruptcy protection in January 2012. The company late last year reached an agreement to sell its digital imaging patents to a consortium for $525 million. Kodak plans to emerge from bankruptcy during the first half of this year.

Kyocera manufactures, distributes and sells industrial components, and telecommunications and information equipment worldwide.

Kodak said it had no comment on the filing at this time.
