White announces he will run for Rochester mayor

Monroe Avenue business owner Alexander White plans to run for mayor of Rochester, he announced Monday on the steps of City Hall. White plans to seek the Green Party line.

White, 49, becomes the first to challenge Mayor Thomas Richards, who last week announced his intention to run for a full four-year term.

White, owner of Boldo’s Armory game store on Monroe Avenue, ran for mayor in the 2011 special election. Richards, a Democrat, won with 12,471 votes.

Former Mayor William Johnson Jr., a Democrat running on the Working Families and Independence Party lines, was second with 10,732 votes. White, running on the Green Party line, was third with 2,221 votes.

“I have been talking with people all over the city, getting advice and feedback and I’ve come to a decision that I hope will bring people together to help Rochester achieve its full potential,” White said in a statement Monday.
