New car sales up in March; used-car sales drop

New-car sales in Monroe County improved last month, while used-car sales fell from last year, the Rochester Automobile Dealers’ Association Inc. reported.

Dealers sold 4,181 new vehicles last month, a more than 37 percent increase from 3,043 in February and a 4 percent increase from 4,004 a year ago. Used-car sales improved from 1,775 in February to 2,095 in March, but were down from 2,373 a year ago.

Sales of new and used vehicles typically increase from February to March, RADA historical data shows.

Monroe County auto dealers sold 6,276 new and used vehicles last month, compared with 4,818 in February and 6,377 in March 2012. Some 15,663 cars and trucks have been sold in Monroe County this year, 15,627 in the first three months last year.
