B&L inks distribution deal with PhysIOL

Bausch & Lomb Inc. has concluded a deal with contact lens maker PhysIOL S.A. calling for the local firm to distribute some lines of PhysIOL hydrophilic acrylic intraocular lenses in Asian, European and Middle Eastern markets, officials said Wednesday.

Bausch & Lomb is slated to start distribution this month of Belgium-based PhysIOL’s FineVision trifocal and trifocal toric hydrophilic, UV and blue-blocking, aspheric intraocular lenses and, when available, Ankoris toric lenses.

The deal includes PhysIOL’s Micro line of hydrophilic preloaded, UV and blue-blocking, aspheric monofocal intraocular lenses in limited markets. Distribution rights are exclusive or shared with PhysIOL depending on the market. The companies are leaving open a possibility of expanding the arrangement, officials said.

The PhysIOL lenses complement Bausch & Lomb’s intraocular lens offerings, Bausch & Lomb Global Surgical president John Barr said.

“We are excited to provide ophthalmic surgeons with a greater choice when selecting an intraocular lens best-suited for their patient’s needs, and look forward to broadening the reach of PhysIOL’s products,” Barr said in a statement.
