Natcore applies for two provisional patents

Two provisional patent applications have been filed by Natcore Technology Inc. for processes developed in part by its research and development center at Eastman Business Park, company officials announced Wednesday.

The first invention relates to the use of liquid phase deposition as a diffusion barrier layer in a selective emitter process, the Red Bank, N.J.-based company said.

The second invention covers selectively patterning black silicon by pre-applying specific polymers and dissolving them.

To help perfect the processes, Natcore installed a high-temperature furnace and a solar simulator at its Eastman Business Park facility to test cells produced in the laboratory, officials said.

The patents were filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

“The selective emitter is the first of our applications that we feel will be revenue producing,” said Charles Provini, president and CEO of Natcore, in a statement.

“Even though it’s not a new concept, we think our scientists will be the first to get a cost-effective application out of the lab and into production lines.”
