WHEC-TV 10 has earned a 2013 national Edward R. Murrow Award for outstanding achievement in breaking news for its coverage of the Christmas Eve shooting in Webster that killed two firefighters.
The Edward R. Murrow Awards are presented by the Radio Television Digital News Association to recognize outstanding achievement in electronic journalism. They are considered one of the most prestigious recognitions in the broadcast news industry.
WHEC-TV was recognized in the small market television category. It was the only local station to receive a national 2013 Edward R. Murrow Award.
“While we give our best every day, our team truly pulls together during these difficult times to bring our community the information they need to know in a timely basis,” said Steve Richards, news director at WHEC-TV, in a statement. “This community is an extension of our News10NBC family and we work hard every day to strengthen the place we call home, Rochester, N.Y.”
