Leecia Eve, New York’s deputy secretary for economic development since October 2011, has been named vice president of government affairs for Verizon Communications Inc. in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, officials announced Monday.

Eve, a Buffalo resident and former counsel to Hillary Clinton as New York senator, is slated to start work July 15 for Verizon. She replaces James Gerace, Verizon’s new chief communications officer.

Eve was appointed chief attorney for Empire State Development Corp. in January 2011 by Gov. Andrew Cuomo before becoming his chief economic development adviser nine months later.

Eve will represent Verizon on public policy, government and external affairs and regulatory matters, officials said.
