Wegmans Food Markets Inc. and Cornell University Wednesday announced a partnership aimed at expanding and promoting the New York State dairy industry.
As part of the partnership, Wegmans will spend $360,000 to fund a three-year pilot program at Cornell that will teach advanced cheese production techniques to large producers and startup companies. Wegmans also said it has moved the production of its Wegmans-brand cheddar from Canada to New York State cheesemakers in Corfu, Genesee County; Adams, Jefferson County; and New York City.
Officials from Cornell and Wegmans, including CEO Danny Wegman, said the partnership will mean more farm and retail jobs for New York’s dairy industry.
