A vote on requested tax breaks totaling $441,500 for Xerox Corp. was postponed Tuesday until public hearings next week are completed.
Xerox has applied to the County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency for 10-year property tax abatements for a $5 million expansion of its toner production facility in Webster. The project will result in 25 new jobs over three years, company officials said.
COMIDA projects the benefits of the expansion to the community at nearly $4.4 million.
The upcoming hearings are scheduled for Monday, COMIDA representatives said.
The request for incentives is being criticized by some, including Webster Town Supervisor Ronald Nesbitt, who said Xerox is financially strong and does not need tax breaks, and has filed suit over assessments at other properties on its Webster campus.
Xerox can expand in Webster or expand off-shore, Corporate Real Estate Manager Jack Farnan told COMIDA representatives. The company has smaller toner operations in the Toronto area, operations in the Netherlands and a partnership with Fujifilm Holdings Corp. in Tokyo, he said.
Xerox is investigating the possibility of local and state-sponsored incentives in preparation for the expansion as soon as 2015, Farnan said.
COMIDA approved tax breaks for three other projects during its monthly meeting.
RR97 LLC was approved for sales tax exemptions of $5,724 for Rohrbach Brewing Co.’s $179,000 renovation of its 35,000-square-foot microbrewery at 97 Railroad Ave. near the Rochester Public Market. The projected benefits are $227,988.
Rohrbach plans to install a $177,500 canning line that will allow it to distribute throughout New York. The company, which employs 12, expects to add two workers over three years.
Better Power Inc., a wholesale distributor of emergency generators and accessories, was approved for $8,240 in incentives as it moves from West Henrietta Road in Brighton to a 10,000-square-foot building on White Spruce Boulevard in Brighton. The benefits are projected at $50,010.
The company will invest $103,000 for renovations and equipment at 508 White Spruce Boulevard—formerly home to HCR Home Care—and add at least one job to its current work force of eight, officials said.
Rochester commercial printer Canfield & Tack Inc. was approved for exemptions of $6,120 as it prepares to lease space in a former Eastman Kodak Co. building at 105 McLoughlin St. in Greece. The projected benefits total $48,483.
The Exchange Street company plans to move the digital printing and mailing operations of recently acquired Dellas Graphics Inc. in Syracuse to Monroe County.
It plans to spend $76,500 on racking, forklifts, information technology, phone and security systems at Building 502 on McLoughlin Street on the fringes of the Eastman Business Park.
Canfield & Tack employs 74 in the county, and expects to add one full-time worker as a result of the expansion.
