Vuzix Corp. has been awarded $75,000, the remaining award from Phase I Option, and $680,000 from the Phase II Option, of the Small Business Innovation Research award from the Office of Naval Research, company officials said.

The “Head Worn Display Augmented Reality for Military Training Applications” Small Business Innovation Research award was given to Vuzix to develop waveguide based optics and display engines in goggles that are high performance but low-cost to superimpose computer information on an individual’s perspective.

The next phase of the SBIR will be to develop the optics and display engines. A partnership with Six15 Technologies will help to integrate the optics necessary for the high-quality goggles.

More phases of the award are expected to be at higher dollar values.
