The creator of Jolt Cola today launched a new drink using cap technology that should make it as novel today for its health benefits as Jolt was in the 1980s for its caffeine content.

At the time, Jolt promised energy with twice the caffeine of regular sodas; today, Karma Wellness Water, made by Pittsford-based Karma Culture, promises energy too, but in the form of airtight sealed vitamins stored in the drink’s cap.

Karma Wellness CEO CJ Rapp and his co-founders rolled out the new product in five varieties.

Besides Rapp and Coon, Karma’s team includes Jeff Platt, president, and Lowell Patric, chief financial officer.

Platt has worked on other beverage brands, including Snapple, while Patric previously was president of Rochester Community Savings Bank and chief financial officer of Wet Planet Beverages Inc., the company that produced Jolt.

Local distributor Wright Wisner Distributing Corp. is shopping the beverage to retailers. Wegmans Food Markets Inc. is one, and Wright Wisner also is in talks with Tops Markets LLC.
