Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. provided $4.7 million in energy incentives and grants to 39 companies for economic development initiatives in 2011, officials announced Thursday.
Electricity and natural gas rate incentives went to a range of businesses, including auto parts makers, chemical research and development companies and Internet-based service businesses in the region, officials said.
RG&E’s grant recipients account for $141 million in capital investments that will retain or add 2,900 jobs, officials said.
RG&E and New York State Electric & Gas Corp. combined to award $9.8 million to companies for electricity and gas infrastructure improvements and rate incentives to 59 upstate firms last year, officials said. The funds helped support capital investments of $431 million, retaining or adding 6,000 jobs in 13 counties.
RG&E and NYSEG are subsidiaries of Iberdrola USA Inc., whose headquarters are on East Avenue.
“NYSEG and RG&E have always been good partners with the communities we serve,” NYSEG and RG&E president Mark Lynch said in a statement. “That’s why we work closely with local and state economic development agencies and provide millions of dollars in economic development funds each year to add or retain jobs in Upstate New York.
“Our economic development programs play a key part in driving economic growth in our region.”
