SEIU plans to picket Medina Memorial Hospital

After talks with the Orleans Community Health management stalled, union workers are planning to picket the health system’s Medina Memorial Hospital, Service Employees International Union officials said Tuesday.

Negotiations between members of the SEIU United Healthcare Workers East unit and hospital management broke down after marathon sessions this past weekend failed to reach a resolution on economic issues, union officials said. Points in contention include whether the system would keep paying for worker training and continuing education, continue contributing to employees’ 401(k) accounts and restore cuts to workers’ health benefits.

A picket line is planned for Wednesday afternoon.

SEIU represents 325 Orleans Community Health workers, including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, medical technicians, service workers and maintenance workers.
