Cuomo signs Kodak retiree insurance law

By  - 8/1/2012 10:11:24 PM

Gov. Andrew Cuomo Wednesday signed legislation that will enable retired Eastman Kodak Co. employees to buy experience-rated health insurance.

The new law, which the Senate and Assembly passed unanimously, authorizes the Department of Financial Services to approve a demonstration program to provide experience-rated health insurance coverage to Kodak retirees. The law takes effect immediately.

“Some of these employees have dedicated the majority of their careers to Kodak, and they should have options for their health insurance coverage,” the governor said in a statement.

Currently, New York insurance law requires individual and small group health insurance policies and contracts to be community rated.
