Bausch & Lomb Inc. on Thursday announced a research partnership with Cirle Inc., a Florida-based medical technology incubator.
Circe is affiliated with the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. For the past nine years, U.S. News and World Report has ranked Bascom Palmer as the nation’s No. 1 ophthalmology program.
Currently a partnership between Cirle and Bausch & Lomb’s pharmaceuticals division, the partnership could be expanded to include the eye-care company’s surgical and vision-care divisions, Bausch & Lomb officials said.
Founded in 2010 and headed by Bascom Palmer director Richard Awdeh M.D., Cirle works with the institute’s technology licensing group and its own staff scientists to acquire and bring new eye-disease treatments to market.
