Bausch & Lomb Inc. has acquired all outstanding shares of Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH, eye-care company officials said Wednesday.

Bausch & Lomb and joint venture partner 20/10 Perfect Vision AG established Technolas in 2009.

Technolas produces the Victus Femtosecond Laser, a surgical tool capable of performing either cataract or corneal procedures. Femtosecond lasers use a technology called chirped-pulse amplification to deliver a highly focused cutting beam. Developed for disassembling nuclear weapons components, the technology also has dental applications. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared the Victus laser for use in the United States earlier this year.

A 2011 co-promotion and marketing agreement inked between 20/10 Perfect Vision and Bausch & Lomb gave Bausch & Lomb U.S. marketing rights for the Victus laser and the option of buying out 20/10 Perfect Vision’s interest in Technolas.

The acquisition “represents an important milestone for Bausch & Lomb” Bausch & Lomb CEO Brent Saunders said. “The Technolas Perfect Vision team has built a great company and from my perspective, the most innovative ophthalmic lasers in the industry.”
