Cuomo and Duffy review projects in the Finger Lakes region

Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy visited four project sites in the Rochester area Tuesday and received updates on five projects.

The trip was part of a statewide tour of regional economic development council initiatives, including those of the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council.

“Instead of a one size fits all approach to economic development, New York State has given individual regions the power to design plans that make sense for their own local economies,” Cuomo said in a statement released following his visit.

Cuomo and Duffy visited the Port of Rochester, Eastman Business Park, Midtown Tower and the former Midtown Plaza site, and PharmaSmart International Inc. at Winton Place in Henrietta.

Cuomo reviewed presentations on progress of the New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium, the High Tech Rochester business accelerator, the Finger Lakes Museum, the University of Rochester-IBM Health Center Science Center for Computational Innovation, and the I-390 reconstruction project.

“Today is an exciting opportunity for an open discussion of the incredible progress regional councils are making in the Finger Lakes and across the state, as well the steps we are taking to build on that success for the coming year,” said Duffy, a former Rochester mayor, said in the statement.
