Harris Corp.’s RF Communications division in Rochester has received an $11 million order from the Ministry of Defence of an undisclosed NATO country for its secure personal radio.

The order is tied to a new framework contract, with the potential to reach $20 million over the next year, the company said.

The radio provides the nation’s armed forces with communication at the team, squad and platoon levels. Its capabilities include high-performance voice, integrated hearing protection, wideband data and situational awareness capabilities. It is deployed to more than 50 nations, the company said.

“This soldier system program provides important new communication capabilities at the soldier level,” said Brendan O’Connell, president of RF Communications’ international business, in a statement. “This radio has rapidly grown to become the international standard for voice and data communications to the individual soldier.’’

RF Communications ranked third on the most recent Rochester Business Journal list of manufacturers.
