RGH, Batavia health system to expand affiliation

Rochester General Health System and United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia are expanding their affiliation, officials announced Friday.

Though they have partnered before, the new agreement will help the Batavia health system address the changes and challenges of health care reform and maintain all local control of United Memorial operations in Batavia, officials said.

“As a regional health care delivery system, a core element of our mission is to collaborate with smaller area health care providers to help them better serve their local communities,” RGHS president and CEO Mark Clement said.

Clement pointed out RGHS participates in collaborative relationships with hospitals, including Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca and Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.

“Changes in state and federal reimbursements along with regulations associated with national health care reform have shown that a partnership with a larger, regional health care center will be imperative to the success of continuing to provide quality care right at home,” said Mark Schoell, president and CEO of United Memorial.

RGH ranked No. 2 and United Memorial ranked No. 7 on the Rochester Business Journal’s most recent list of hospitals, ranked by total full-time personnel.
