Harris Corp.’s RF Communications division in Rochester has received a $19 million contract from Spotsylvania County in Virginia to replace its existing public safety radio system with one that improves its coverage area.
The new system will improve communications for law enforcement, fire service and emergency medical service personnel who serve one of Virginia’s fastest-growing counties, the company said.
The Harris system includes seven new transmission sites and increases the communications capacity and extends coverage to more than 95 percent of the county.
RF Communications employs some 2,300 workers.
