Businesses need to move fast in today's quickly changing economic landscape, but just how fast they need to be-or even what fast means to a business-can be tricky to determine.
Greater Rochester Enterprise Inc. and the Small Business Council of Rochester are tackling the topic at the 2013 Eyes on the Future Economic Summit. The event slated for Wednesday features a keynote address from Fast Company editor Robert Safian on how companies and businesspeople can determine whether they are fast.
Safian has been executive editor of Fortune and an executive editor at Time. He now oversees all editorial operations at Fast Company, a monthly business magazine.
Since his arrival in 2007, the magazine has gained a reputation for highlighting new trends in business while keeping in tune with traditional business methods, event organizers said.
In a presentation titled "Is Your Company a Fast Company?" Safian is to provide guidelines for determining how to use speed to ensure success.
The Eyes on the Future Economic Summit, now in its sixth year, draws more than 1,000 business leaders. The event includes the Eyes Expo, a networking event that showcases innovative organizations.
"This event is a great opportunity to gain insight from a national expert, check in with the local economy and network with area business leaders," said Mark Peterson, GRE president and CEO. "We are confident that Robert Safian will give an excellent presentation, and we look forward to showcasing the best of our region for him."
The summit also is a chance for GRE and the Small Business Council to collaborate and share a mission of encouraging business growth, said Timothy Mason, SBC president.
"Since small business remains such a critical driver of the economic success of our region, it makes perfect sense for the Small Business Council of Rochester to take a leadership role in this event as a co-host with GRE," Mason said.
The event takes place at St. John Fisher College. It is free and open to the public. The expo opens at 7 a.m., and the summit begins at 8:30 a.m. Registration and more information are at www.eyesonthefuture.biz.
