The University of Rochester Medical Center is slated to acquire Lakeside Health System’s medical practices and the system’s Spencerport urgent care center at midnight July 15, URMC officials said Thursday.
Two primary-care practices are to transfer to URMC: Vladimir Gaspar M.D.’s LeRoy practice and Didem Miraloglu M.D.’s, located in the Lakeside campus physician office building on West Avenue in Brockport.
The transfer of the Lakeside assets to Strong Memorial Hospital’s license keeps on track URMC’s plans to reopen the Brockport health system’s shuttered hospital as an urgent care center in August or early September, officials said. URMC plans to rename the facility as URMC Strong West and hopes to get a green light from the state Department of Health to turn the facility into a freestanding emergency department.
Timing of the URMC plan depends on how soon the medical center can arrange to acquire Lakeside’s real estate. URMC was still negotiating terms of that purchase with First Niagara Bank, URMC CEO Bradford Berk M.D. said in June. The real estate deal is proceeding but has yet to close, officials said Thursday. Also needed are sign-offs by the state attorney general and court officials.
