Furyk, Scott share first-round lead at Oak Hill

Jim Furyk and Adam Scott shot opening round 65s—5-under par—and shared the lead Thursday at the 95th PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford. (Click here for video.)

They tied Chad Campbell for the low round posted in a PGA Championship at Oak Hill. Campbell shot a 65 in the third round in 2003 and went on to a runner-up finish.

David Hearn and Lee Westwood each finished with a 66 Thursday and were one shot behind the leaders.

First-round play was suspended at Oak Hill at 4:25 p.m. because of inclement weather; it resumed at 5:35.

Tiger Woods finished his first round at 1-over-par 71. Phil Mickelson also carded a 71. Defending champion Rory McIlroy (at right) was 1-under par at the end of the day.

After completing Round 1, Bo Van Pelt withdrew from the PGA Championship, due to a hip injury, officials said. Van Pelt finished the round with a 10-over par 80.

Notes from Round 1:

On Wednesday night, Lee Trevino received the 2013 PGA Distinguished Service Award before an audience of more than 1,000 at the Rochester Convention Center, PGA.com reports. Trevino won win 89 events worldwide, including six major championships, and served as the 1985 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain.

The PGA Distinguished Service Award, inaugurated in 1988, honors outstanding individuals who display leadership and humanitarian qualities, including integrity, sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the game of golf. It is The PGA of America's highest annual honor.
