Wegmans Food Markets Inc. is looking to expand its Perinton store location and is seeking a special-use permit from the town of Perinton.
The store is located at 6600 Pittsford-Palmyra Road near Route 250.
The proposed expansion would include 31,300 square feet on the east side of the store and a remodeling of the existing store, which at completion will total 122,000 square feet. The remodeling is to include a new facade and a clock tower, company officials said.
It has been 46 years since Wegmans opened in Perinton. Initially the store was 18,000 square feet and located on the same site but at a different location. In 1974, a 54,000-square-foot store opened in the current location, and in 1987 the store underwent a remodel and was expanded to its current size of 90,700 square feet.
More municipal approvals will be needed for the company to move forward. Once approvals are received, a timeline for the project will be announced to the public, Wegmans officials said.
On Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. a public hearing is scheduled at the Perinton Town Hall.
