The 2014 Rochester Regional Business Plan Contest committee has selected eight companies as semifinalists. These companies are competing for more than $50,000 in cash and prizes.

The aim of the contest is to encourage entrepreneurship in Rochester and support new startups.
The names of five finalists will be revealed April 10. Finalists will present business plans to a panel of judges at the Hyatt Regency Rochester on May 2.

The 2014 Rochester Regional Business Plan Contest semifinalists, whose technologies span a variety of industries, are: Advanced Quantum Imaging; Decision Support Solutions; Divar Inc.; IMSWorkX Inc.; Ovitz; Parts Dashboard; RWP Energy and Turbett Surgical.

“As in previous years, whittling the field down was no easy task, but we’re excited for all of these companies and the promise they hold for success,” said James Senall, president of High Tech Rochester Inc., which manages the contest, in a statement.

Contest winners will be announced at the Celebration of Entrepreneurship Luncheon. Last year’s event attracted close to 300 business leaders, entrepreneurs and investors. Tickets ($45 per person or $400 per table of 10) are available through April 25 at www.htr.org.
