Peter Lawrence, who as a U.S. Marshal auctioned Rochester’s fast ferry to the city in 2005, announced his Republican candidacy Thursday for the 134th District seat in the state Assembly.
Lawrence is slated to run against Democrat Gary Pudup, a former Monroe County sheriff’s deputy, to replace William Reilich, who left the Assembly at the end of last year after being elected Greece town supervisor.
Reilich is the Monroe County Republican Party chairman.
Lawrence, a Greece resident, spent nearly 29 years with the State Police, retiring in 2002 as a staff inspector to accept a presidential appointment as U.S. Marshal for the Western New York District of the U.S. Marshals Service.
His tenure as a marshal ended in 2010.
