Mengel, Metzger Barr adds investigative accounting

By THOMAS ADAMS - 6/2/2014

Mengel, Metzger Barr & Co. LLP is adding investigative accounting to its portfolio of services, the company said Monday.

The Rochester-based CPA firm’s investigative and dispute resolution services division offers forensic accounting, litigation support and resolutions to complex accounting issues.

Brian Hedges has been hired to manage the new division, the company said. He previously was a manager of the forensics and valuation services group at Grant Thornton LLP in Chicago.

Hedges is responsible for financial and accounting expert services for litigation and alternative dispute resolution, fraud investigations, forensic accounting and interviewing, fraud prevention services, compliance monitoring services, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act due diligence, and construction cost recovery services, the company said.

“Our firm has offered a very specific set of forensic accounting services for many years, but with the launch of this new division and the hiring of Brian Hedges we’re really taking our commitment to this type of service to a completely different and exciting level,” Managing Partner Mark Kovaleski said in a statement.

With 50 certified public accountants locally, Mengel, Metzger Barr ranks third on the Rochester Business Journal’s most recent list of local CPA firms.
