Free Community Shred Day: Celebrate New York Recycles Day! Join the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, the state Consumer Protection Board and Classified Shredding Services in fighting one of America's fastest-growing crimes-identity theft. This one-day community event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Classified Shredding Services, 425 Paul Road in Chili. Local residents will have the opportunity to dispose of confidential documents in a safe and secure manner. Documents will be inserted into locked containers, shredded and sent directly to a paper mill for recycling. Limit three file boxes per person. The Hickok Center for Brain Injury 8th Annual Auction Gala: Join the Hickok Center from 6 to 10 p.m. at beautiful Carey Lake, 959 Walworth-Penfield Road in Macedon. This year's event will be co-emceed by News 10 NBC's Thalia Hayden and social media strategist Mike Johansson, with special guest speaker Jeff Bazarian M.D., associate professor of emergency medicine, neurology and neurosurgery at the University of Rochester. The theme for this green-ribbon event is "Raising Spirits, Creating Possibilities." Proceeds from the evening support activity programs run by and for the members of Hickok's Rochester and Newark centers to help them regain independence and reintegrate into our communities. Enjoy savory hors d'oeuvres, decadent desserts generously donated by area restaurants and bakeries, both live and silent auctions, raffles, cocktails, live music and more! 20th Annual Salute to Excellence: Attend the Monroe Community College Foundation's annual recognition of outstanding company or individual philanthropists, alumni and volunteers who have contributed to MCC and our community. The event raises funds to support student scholarships and faculty excellence while celebrating the positive cultural and economic impact MCC continues to have on Greater Rochester. The event theme is "Experience Rochester," a celebration of those special things that make Rochester such a great place to live and work. Entertainment will include Theatre Young Kids Enjoy, which will write and perform a custom Rochester parody, as well as the Smoking Hot Pipes, a hip and contemporary a cappella group, and the Mike Kaupa Jazz Quartet. Seeing Christmas Through Ralphie's Eyes: Get into the holiday spirit early this year with the Friends of Strong's 30th anniversary celebration. Friends of Strong will celebrate with a dessert reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by a live performance of "A Christmas Story" at 7:30 p.m. at the Geva Theatre Center. Friends of Strong is the volunteer department for Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center. The department has more than 1,300 volunteers who provide extra comfort and support for hospital patients. Tickets to the celebration are $65 for orchestra center and $55 for orchestra left and right or balcony seats. Children under 5 are not permitted in the theater. Proceeds will be used to combat spinal cord injuries in honor of Bradford Berk M.D. and for the Rotenberg Patient Advocate Fund. Monetary donations are also accepted.
